FEATURED ARTIST

Bruce Everett

Bruce Everett “For me the physical act of finding, composing and painting the landscape has become more than a formal and sensual activity. To marvel at our presence in the world is the true subject.”

Bruce Everett’s oil landscapes feature bold, often dark compositional forms, dramatic light and a sense of solitude. His combination of smooth and expressive brushwork creates visual intensity and lends truthfulness to the subject. In works up to 10’ x 13’, viewers often feel immersed in the scene. Many studio paintings draw on photos taken while flying his ultralight airplane, offering unusual viewpoints. Alongside these larger, technically involved works, Everett creates smaller plein air paintings to capture fleeting light and weather and experience a location directly.

Born in Los Angeles and raised just north of Chicago, Bruce was an only child who explored the bluffs and wooded ravines along Lake Michigan—a formative influence on his landscape painting.

Despite early artistic ability, he began painting in college. He earned a Masters in Art from the University of Iowa and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After teaching briefly at the University of Washington, Seattle, he served as Professor of Art at California State University, Northridge from 1970 until retiring in 2005.

Bruce’s painting career spans more than forty-five years, with numerous solo shows in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. His work has appeared in museums and galleries throughout Southern California, Oregon, Seattle, New York, Connecticut and Texas. He is featured in numerous books, exhibition catalogs and publications on Photorealism and landscape painting. His paintings are held in public, private and corporate collections.
